NEWSLETTER 2020

Greetings!
The Trust
It’s been a tough year for everyone, including the Sol & Evelyn Zuckerman Memorial Trust.  The year 2020 saw the loss, for many, of family, friends and livelihoods.
I joined Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills and celebrated the High Holy Day services virtually. Thank you to Matt Davidson, Executive Director of Temple Emanuel, and our Trustee, for his kindness.
The Grant
In 2020 the Albert and Malca Pasternak Mitzvah Grant was given to Samantha Ugolnik, the outstanding Bat Mitzvah student at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills, Samantha was given this award in recognition of her contributions to others.  Samantha received the award with a gift of $250 and Temple Emanuel received a matching gift.  We congratulate Samantha and wish her continued success!
The Award
The Jane Zachary Award for the Arts in 2020 was given to the Actors Fund.  As a young dancer I made my debut in Milk and Honey on Broadway and followed that by playing Leisel, the ingenue lead in the National Company of The Sound of Music starring Florence Henderson. I can only imagine how devastating it must be not to be able to perform.  Hopefully, normalcy will soon return.
The Charities
The Memorial Trust is proud to support the following charities: ABILITYFIRST, ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION, BOYS TOWN, DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS, THE LOS ANGELES MISSION, WAYFINDER and my alma mater, THE HIGH SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS in New York City.  This year, we’ve added the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY as a tribute to Allan Michael Fink, Jane Zachary’s companion for thirty one years.
Allan Fink
Allan created The Sol and Evelyn Zuckerman Memorial Trust for me in honor of my parents Sol and Evelyn Zuckerman.  Allan’s grandfather, Albert Pasternak was one of the first vice-presidents of Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. Allan’s mother was confirmed and later married Allan’s father at Temple Emanuel.  We honor Allan’s memory and feel greatful to have known him.
The Future
Best wishes in 2021.  Let’s all pray for a safe and healthy New Year!

NEWSLETTER OF THE SOL AND EVELYN ZUCKERMAN MEMORIAL TRUST
2019
Greetings,

The Sol and Evelyn Zuckerman Memorial Trust is pleased to announce that Matthew Davidson has been named Executive Director of Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills and is our new Trustee. We welcome Matt and look forward to working with him in the best interests of the Temple and the Trust.
We thank Ellis Kirschenbaum, our dear friend, former Trustee and past Executive Director of Temple Emanuel for his invaluable advice and assistance over the years. We wish him well in his retirement.
In 2019 the Trust was excited to receive good news from Melissa Collins our 2017 recipient of the Jane Zachary Endowment for the Arts. Melissa is currently starring in her own Web Series, “Godmother”.
Once again the Jane Zachary Endowment for the Arts honored Loriston Scott. For the last five years, Loriston’s repertory group IT’S A B.L.A.S.S.T has brought live comedy and musical theater to senior citizen centers throughout southern California. It has been fun to join the group from time to time bringing Loriston’s entertainment to senior citizens.
The 2019 Albert and Malca Pasternak Mitvah Grant was given to Jeremy Levin, an outstanding 7th grade Bar Mitzvah student. A matching grant was also given to Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. Jeremy’s Bar Mitvah project raised money that he donated to the Jerusalem YMCA, a children’s recreation and sports program that fosters amity, goodwill and understanding between Arabs and Israelis.
We are pleased to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of this year’s recipients as we add their names to the list of previous recipients - with a special thanks to Jeremy Levin.
And to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah the Annual Memorial Trust Dinner was held at Hop Li Chinese Restaurant - a landmark in West Los Angeles. The food was delicious and enjoyed by all; our new Trustee, Matt Davidson, our financial advisor Dan Bemel of UBS, and Stephen Shikes, Esq., our legal counsel.
We continue to donate to charity. This year’s recipients are: Ability First, Boys Town, Disabled American Veterans, Wayfinder Family Services,The Los Angeles Mission, and The Alumni and Friends of Fiorello H. Laguardia, High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City.
The Sol and Evelyn Zuckerman Memorial Trust looks forward to fulfilling it’s continuing commitment to the arts and charity through it’s grants, rewards and contributions. I want to once again congratulate our award winners and grantees.
This year has been rewarding for me as well. I’m still teaching stretch and tone classes for seniors at the Roxbury Park Community Center in Beverly Hills. I joined a local community group that meets monthly to discuss current events and matters affecting our Jewish community. The coming year is one in which we can all make a difference through our faith, our compassion and our charity. Shannah Tovah!

NEWSLETTER 2017
GREETINGS!

It’s been a busy and hectic year for the Sol and Evelyn Zuckerman Memorial Trust. It has been a wonderful year as well.

In August, the Beverly Hills Community Center asked me to fill in as a substitute for their Senior Fitness Instructor who had to leave for a family emergency.  I taught classes for the next three months to as many as forty-five to fifty Seniors. It was an incredibly rewarding experience. Looking back, it was my years of ballet and modern dance training along with the discipline I learned as an actress and singer that made the opportunity a success. It is the reason that the Jane Zachary Endowment for the Arts Award recognizes and supports talented young actors and actresses.
The Trust is pleased to announce the Jane Zachary Award for the Arts recognizes three winners this year.
Melissa Collins, a beautiful and talented young actress was singled out for her brilliant performance as Lillie Langtree in “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily” at Theatre 40 of Beverly Hills.
Buddy Watson, a multi-talented actor, singer, and dancer was chosen for his performance in “Pin-Ups”, a salute to our Veterans, touring nationally and for his technical skills and lead performances with the It’s a B.L.A.S.S.T. Theater Group in Los Angeles.
Loriston Scott, a Senior Fitness Instructor who for the third year in a row has brought live musical comedy entertainment with his Theatre Group, It’s a B.L.A.S.S.T. to the many Senior Citizen Facilities throughout Southern California.
In 2017, The Albert and Malca Pasternak Mitzvah Grant was awarded to Lana Marks, an outstanding Bat Mitzvah Student at Temple Emmanuel of Beverly Hills.  The Synagogue received a matching gift.
We congratulate all our award winners and are proud to add their names to the list of previous recipients.
Finally, on a fun note the Memorial Trust celebrated their third Annual Dinner at Rock Sugar, a beautiful Asian Fusion Restaurant in Century City.  In attendance were: Jane Zachary, Secretary; Eric Reiter, Trustee; Dan Bemel, UBS Financial Advisor; Bill Hranchak, CPA; and Stephen Shikes, Esquire.
The Trust continues it’s donations to the following charities; AbilityFirst, Arthritis Foundation, Avon Walk  for Breast Cancer, Disabled American Veterans, Junior Blind of America, Los Angeles Mission, MAZON, Union Rescue Mission and The Alumni & Friends of Fiorello H. Laguardia School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
The Sol & Evelyn Zuckerman Memorial Trust looks forward to a bright future to increase our various gifts and charitable donations.  We welcome your comments and participation.

Sincerely,

Jane Zachary

Newsletter 2021
Greetings!
It’s been another tough year for the Sol and Evelyn Zuckerman Memorial Trust as well as for everyone else on the Planet. And with the Omicron variant, we have to be even more vigilant. Hopefully, our country will unite and come through this Pandemic.
On a happier note, I have been engaged to teach Stretch and Tone Exercise Classes to Seniors in Beverly Hills. Having danced on Broadway over fifty years ago, I feel a sense of renewal and I’m grateful for the opportunity to improve myself and to help others.
This year, the Trust salutes the Actors Fund and honors them with the Jane Zachary Endowment for the Arts Award. The Actors Fund has helped nearly 25,000 industry professionals and has acted as a safety net during the Pandemic for those needing assistance with rent, food, and medications. We applaud them and continue to support their work.
The recipient of the Albert and Malca Pasternak Mitzvah Grant for 2021 is Ella Shams-Schaal, an outstanding Bat Mitzvah student at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. The Temple will receive a matching gift. Ella has been a Madricha at her religious school both virtually and in person. She is passionate about social justice and plans to become an Environmental Scientist. We congratulate Ella and wish her continued success.
This year, the Trust supports the following charities: Ability First; American Cancer Society; Boys Town; Disabled American Veterans; Los Angeles Mission; Wayfinder Family Services, and The High School of Performing Arts (my alma mater).
The Sol and Evelyn Zuckerman Memorial Trust looks forward to a brighter future for 2022 and wishes all a healthy, happy and safe New Year!!
